Maths - mastering number lines

Image
In maths, Year 3 have been working hard to use and interpret number lines. We have learned that each 'jump' is called an interval, and that intervals can be worth different values! Our number lines have had intervals worth 10s, 20s, 50s, 100s and even 200s! Next week, we will start to make estimates on number lines too!

Trying charcoal

Image
Did you know that charcoal is one of the oldest art materials on earth!? Year 3 have been keeping the tradition alive by experimenting with charcoal in all shapes and sizes. We loved the chance to get messy and smudge the charcoal with our fingers! Today, we enjoyed creating some sketches based on work by Degas and Laura McKendry. Enjoy our gallery below!

This week in English we started our new unit of work looking at the book Leon and the Place Between. In the story a boy named Leon goes to visit the circus. Today we thought about what we might see, smell, hear or feel at the circus and used the book and videos for inspiration before writing some ideas down.

In English this week we have been working towards our final outcome for this unit of work- making our own That’s not my dragon books! We wrote our stories yesterday and then spent our lesson today turning them into books! We copied the stories up and the created illustrations to go with them- including sticking on textured parts to the pictures just like the real books! The end results were fantastic and everyone worked really hard on them.
