PSHE: danger vs risk ⚠️

Image
In PSHE this week, Year 3 have been learning about ‘danger’ and ‘risk’ and the difference between the two. In groups, we acted out some different risky or dangerous scenarios, and as a class we discussed which they were and why. For example, stepping out onto a busy road would be dangerous, whereas riding a bicycle could be risky. Year 3 had very mature suggestions of ways that we can reduce risk for ourselves. For example, wearing a helmet on a bike ride, and asking an adult if we are unsure about a choice. Well done, Year 3!

Today, Year 3 were given a challenge! Can you recreate a part of the Bayeux Tapestry without drawing?  In this lesson, we learned about a French artist called Henri Matisse who created artwork using scissors and paper. We learned about his process before having a go for ourselves.

Year 3 - Spring Term - Gymnastics & Hockey 🀸‍♀️πŸ’

Year 3 have shown excellent resilience this week despite barriers to their PE lessons due to the weather, Year 6 SATs and other factors. Continuing their focus on gymnastics, Year 3 have been revisiting and developing the key fundamentals. This has included holding balances using various points of contact with the floor, as well as challenging themselves with higher-level individual and group balances. Students have focused on creating a performance by developing their own choreography, while thinking carefully about transitions, presentation and flow. Alongside gymnastics, Year 3 have also been working on hockey, developing their ball control and correct stick handling. They have practised making passes and communicating effectively using appropriate terminology. Some classes were limited in space. However, this did not stop Year 3, who took part in a range of classroom-based activities such as “air hockey”, yoga and other movement activities.

In music this week, Year 3 have been learning about rhythm, using the story of Handa’s Surprise as inspiration. We learned some different rhythms based on fruits in the story. In pairs, we had a go at coming up with our own fruit rhythms!
