Spring Term - Year 3 - Tennis & Inclusive Sports

This week, Year 3 have been focusing on challenging themselves as they develop their tennis fundamentals and broaden their understanding of the sport. They have been working hard to refine their core skills and techniques. Students have practised controlling the ball, improving their coordination, and developing consistency when returning shots to their partners. Throughout these activities, the children have been encouraged to push themselves, demonstrate perseverance, and apply the techniques they have been learning in increasingly confident ways. In addition to traditional tennis activities, some classes have also explored different variations of the sport, including table tennis which allowed them to adapt their skills to a new style of play while continuing to build hand-eye coordination and quick reactions.

In netball, our focus has once again been on developing effective passing and encouraging students to think creatively during game situations. The children have been considering how to respond to less predictable moments in play, such as when the ball rolls along the floor, and discussing when it may be best to retrieve the ball in order to gain a greater distance or advantage for their team. Alongside practising their passing and movement, the students have also been learning more about the rules and regulations of the game, helping them to develop a clearer understanding of how netball is played. Some children even took the opportunity to step into the role of umpiring, confidently helping to officiate and guide their classmates during matches, which further strengthened their understanding of fair play and decision-making.

To ensure that all students felt involved and engaged, we also incorporated a number of inclusive team games, such as bench ball. These activities allowed everyone to participate, build teamwork, and practise communication and cooperation with their peers in a supportive environment.

Overall, Year 3 have shown fantastic resilience and enthusiasm when learning new skills and taking on new information. They have approached each challenge with a positive attitude and have continued to develop their confidence, taking everything in their stride as they progress in both their understanding and practical application of the games we have been exploring.
